CHRIS IS SAD
As a father, a Black man, and someone who has lived through the pain of divorce both as a child and as an adult, I feel a deep responsibility to speak to an often overlooked reality: How Black children experience and carry the weight of divorce.
Far too often, the conversation centers on the adults’ struggles, adjustments, and futures, while the emotional and psychological needs of our children are pushed to the margins. This book was born out of a place of love and urgency to equip Black parents, especially fathers, with the tools and understanding needed to support their children through the storm of separation. There is hope. And you are a critical part of it. Stay involved. Show up. Speak up. Speak out.
And most importantly, live for your children. Your steady presence in their lives is more powerful than any gift, gadget, or apology. Fathers bring a sense of care, calm, and security, especially in the wake of divorce. Our sons and daughters need to hear from us that they are not at fault, that they are deeply loved, and that we are not leaving them behind in the aftermath of a broken marriage.
So I say to you: Keep showing up. Keep being great. Keep caring, even on the days when it’s hard. Your consistency is healing. Your love is transformative. And your presence it matters more than you may ever know.
